Dorothy Suratt Clinehens

Dorothy Suratt Clinehens, age 99, of Fayetteville passed away Tuesday February 5, 2019. She was born April 2, 1919 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Hugh and Ethel Suratt Gunter. She is a member of First United Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Clinehens Sr. and her daughter, Marietta Hulse. As a graduate of Texas Women's College with a degree in library science, she moved to Fayetteville to become the librarian for the Washington County Library, the first librarian in the state to have a degree in library science. She had a deep love of beauty which could be seen in her garden, artwork, fiber arts, and expansive collection of seashells, as well as her books, which were always close by. She was a progressive and independent thinker, and she fiercely loved her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Her home was always open and a center of all family activity. Dorothy is survived by her daughter Dorothy Clinehens Cassat and husband Charles Cassat Sr., of Fayetteville; a son Charles Clinehens Jr., and wife Jeanie of Fayetteville; son-in-law Danny Hulse of Wheeler; six grandchildren, Stacie Cassat Green and husband Jon, Chuck Cassat and wife Darlene, Chad Clinehens and wife Jennifer, Olivia Clinehens Witherspoon and husband Scott, Kimberly Clinehens; Elizabeth Hulse; nine great-grandchildren, Jasper Green, Milo Green, Cody Cassat, Emily Cassat, Lauren Clinehens, Lillian Clinehens, Samuel Witherspoon, Caleb Witherspoon, and Ella Kate Witherspoon. Visitation will be 1 p.m.–2 p.m. Saturday February 9, 2019 at First United Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. at First United Presbyterian Church with the burial to follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens under the direction of Moore's Chapel.
