James "Sunny" Alfred Townsend

James Alfred Townsend, a resident of Bentonville went to be with the Lord on February 16, 2019 in Hiwasse. He was born January 2, 1929, in Rogers to Mack and Leona Townsend. He married Wanda Mae Mattingly on June 2, 1951, and was married 61 years before her death in 2012. James was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda; his son, Dennis; sister, Maxine; brothers, Eugene, Denver, and Daryl. James, also known as Sonny, retired from APAC in 1991. He was a member of the Park Street Baptist and recently attended Harbor of Praise Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends. He leaves behind a daughter, Linda Whittle of Anderson, Mo.; sons, Buddy Townsend and wife, Anita of Hiwasse, Tommy Townsend and wife, Paula of Bentonville; daughter- in- law Nancy of Pea Ridge; brothers, Jerry Townsend of Bentonville and Larry Townsend of Gravette. He was the proud grandfather of 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was also loved by many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 20, 2019, from 5-7 p.m. at Harbor of Praise Church.
