Georgie Goodwin Williamson

Georgie Goodwin Williamson, 90, of Cabot, Arkansas, died on February 19, 2019. She was born April 12, 1928 on a rice farm in Almyra, Arkansas to the late Frank and Roxie Goodwin. Ms. Williamson enjoyed traveling, fishing, and golf. She attended DeWitt High School and Ouachita Baptist College. She completed graduate education at George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville, Indiana University, and Butler University. Prior to her retirement, Ms. Williamson worked as librarian and teacher, in a career that included extensive work overseas supporting schools for military dependents in Japan, England, Germany, and the Philippine Islands in the 1950s and early 1960s. Her assignments included additional schools in DeWitt, Ark.; Stuttgart, Ark.; Pensacola, Fla.; St. Petersburg, Fla.; and Southport, Ind. She worked for the Indiana Department of Education and served on the American Library Legislation Committee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Williamson; two sisters, Joyce (Andy) Bauman and Jo (Otis) Stewart; nephew, Lynn Bauman and a grand-niece, Becky Wise. Ms. Williamson is survived by her two step-sons, John Williamson of San Diego and Jeff (Stacy) Williamson of Ft. Collins; niece, Vicki (Larry) Browder of Crossett; three nephews, Frank (Linda) Wise of Cabot, Gary Wise of Vilonia, and Steve Wise of Virginia; two step granddaughters, four grand-nieces and four grand-nephews. The family will have a private gathering at a later time. Cremation services are under the direction of Thomas Funeral Service in Cabot. (501) 941-7888.
