COL. LEWIS FRANK MAGRUDER, 90, passed away at the Little Rock VA Hospital, in his sleep, on Wednesday, February 20, 2019. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Keith Magruder, of Lake Village, Ark. Lewis was born in Fort Smith, Ark., on April 4, 1928, to Cecil and Pansy Kelley Magruder. He graduated from Fort Smith High School and was an Eagle Scout. He also graduated from the University of Arkansas. He met and married his first wife, Patricia Ann Cates, at U of A. They were married 50 years. Patricia passed away in 2002. He later married Shirley Keith Magruder, whom he happily shared the remainder of his life. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Kathleen, Trudy and Lucy, as well as one son, Richard. He also has twelve grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Pat. His sister, Sue, predeceased him. Lewis achieved the rank of colonel during the 30 years of service in the U.S. Army. During his service, he completed several tours of duty in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Additionally, he was stationed at several stateside posts as well as five overseas locations. After retiring in 1977, he taught ROTC and volunteered for the American Red Cross. Lewis was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting and exploring the great outdoors. He loved to watch sports and read the newspaper. Lewis was a proud patriot who loved his family and country. He will forever live in our hearts. Visitation will be Monday, February 25, at 12 p.m. and funeral services at 1 p.m. at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills in North Little Rock. Committal service with military honors will follow at Rest Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kan. 66675-8517.
