Jan Schweitzer, 82, of Bella Vista, Arkansas passed away December 31, 2018. She was born September 15, 1936 in rural Adrian, Minn. Area to Ray Koobs and Anna Lingbeck. Jan attended elementary and high school in Ellsworth, Minn. She was a member of the Zion Presbyterian church in Ellsworth, where she sang in the adult choir and directed the children's choir. She attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D., where she played in the band, Sioux Falls Symphony and sang in the college choir. Jan moved to Sioux Falls in 1957 becoming a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She sang in two choirs, was Mark Twain Elementary School PTA President and president of Sioux Falls SD City Council PTA. While in Sioux Falls she worked for Northwestern Bell Company, Sears and Western Surety/CNA Surety. She belonged to Christian Women's Club and was active in the Boys and Girls Club productions. Jan married Roger Hanson June 6, 1958 in Ellsworth, Minn. On August 11, 1977 she married Dick Schweitzer in Sioux Falls. They moved to Bella Vista, Ark., May 2000, where she worked part time at BV POA General Office. She was a member of the Sanctuary Hand Bell Choir, served as Shepherd Leader, Stephen Minister, member of CCWM, Prayer Fellowship, Ministry of Church Growth and Nominating Committee. She was a member of the Bella Vista Women's Choir, the board of Church Women United, board of Live on Stage and board of Bella Vista Welcome Club and Symphony Choir. Jan loved music and sang with other church choirs. She felt it was a wonderful way to praise God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick in 2008, her parents, one sister, Jeanine Crist, one brother, David Ray, and a great-grandson, Theo Bedinger. Jan is survived by two sons, Brian Hanson (Luann) and Brad Hanson of Sioux Falls, S.D.; six stepchildren, Bob Schweitzer of Grand Rapids, Mich., LuAnn Carlson (Jeff) of Grand Rapids, Dawn Hill/Young (Dale) of Sparta, Mich., Laura Pokora (Scott) of Rockford, Mich., Tony Schweitzer (Laura) of Comstock Park, Mich. and Sherry Hess (Mike) of Grand Rapids; one sister, Joyce Hickman (Robert) of Duluth, Minn.; brother-in-law, Lawrence Crist of Cherokee, Iowa; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren, 16 step-great-grandchildren; eight brothers and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 5th at Bella Vista Community Church with Dr. Jeff reed officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bella Vista Community Church Music Fund and Bella Vista Community Church Building Fund, 75 E. Lancashire Blvd., Bella Vista, Ark. 72714.
