Horace Chilldres

On Saturday, January 5, 2019, Horace Chilldres went to be with our Lord and Savior while surrounded by his loving family. Horace was born July 31, 1933 in Little Rock Arkansas, to Effie "Lucille" Chilldres and Ralph "Leslie" Chilldres. He is survived by his children, Charles (Caryl) Chilldres of Lonoke, Larry (Sarah) Chilldres of Maumelle, Sandra (Pat) Parnell of Lonoke; grandchildren, Tanya (Larry) Slaughter of New Braunfels, Texas, Charles Daniel Chilldres of San Antonio, Texas, Ryan (April) Chilldres of Lonoke, Crystal (George) Adams of Jonesboro, Randy (Kelley) Chilldres of Little Rock, Shannon (Steve) Maddox of Roland, Chris (Brianne) Parnell of Lonoke, Jason (Amy) Parnell of Benton; sixteen great grandchildren; brother, Donnie (Joyce) Chilldres of Cabot; sisters-in-laws, Laverne (Tom) Clark of Napa, Idaho, Mary (Art) Kaufman of Lonoke, brother-in-law Darryl Sumner of Sherwood; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Irene; his parents; brother, James Porter Chilldres; and sister, Barbara Diane Sumner. Horace worked at Chicopee for 40 years as a production supervisor. He was a member of Lonoke Baptist Church. After retirement, Horace and Dorothy enjoyed travelling the United States in their motor home, visiting every state but one. You might not know it by looking at him, but in his younger years he was known to be a great basketball player, even challenging his kids, grandkids and their friends in the game of Horse. When not outside taking care of his garden and driving his tractor, he would be in his recliner catching up on every single western show ever shown on television. He adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In his later years, it would be no surprise to leave his house with a handful of treasures he insisted on them taking. Horace was a loving, caring, and affectionate man. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. The family would like to thank his caregiver, Carmen Truman who has given Horace and Dorothy unconditional love and care over the past few years. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Monday, January 7th at Boyd Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 2 pm, Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Lonoke Baptist Church with burial following in Lonoke Cemetery. Arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke. Online guestbook www.boydfuneralhome.net.
