Omega Man, Husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Alex Leo "Tank" Herman II was born August 16, 1958 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Alex transitioned suddenly January 2, 2019 at home in Houston, Texas. As a life long member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, his faith was a bright light in Christ and never dimmed. He always made time to attend church when in town. Alex attended Horace Mann Junior High School where his basketball team finished 2nd in the state. He also ran track and finished 2nd in the state in the 880 yard run. He attended Hall High School where he was the school's first Black quarterback and then graduated from Arkansas State University, where he repeated that incredible accomplishment. Alex took on many leadership roles throughout his life serving on the Hall High School student council, attending Boy's State and on Governor David Pryor's Education Discipline Committee as the only student representative for the whole state. He had an outstanding ability to bring people together to accomplish common goals. For 41 years he was an active member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. Living in 7 different districts and being a member of 6 chapters he is loved by all of Omega, and he dearly loved his Brothers. Mentoring many young men over the years was one of the things in his life he was particularly proud of. He was truly devoted to the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Alex is survived by the love of his life, Dianne Ray-Herman, three children, Rafanee Herman, Gavin Herman (Brianna) and Rita Baldwin; brother Kirke "Rocky" Herman (Teresa); a sister-in-law Johnnie Herman; nephews Jon-Michael and Jeremiah Herman; Aunts Alexis Herman, Harriet Lemay and Pamela Mercer; grandnephew, Keaton Herman and his beloved first grandchild Honor Herman. Special Friends "The Boyz" Morris "Peanut" Bhones, Danny Ray Robinson, Alfred Gordon, Michael Swanigan, Mark Kimbrough, Curtis Harris and James Block. He is preceded in death by his father Kirke Herman, mother, Pearl Herman, his sister, Deborah Herman-Buggs and brother, Michael Herman who are waiting to embrace their baby boy. Alex loved going to the movies, reading, watching television, being with friends and most of all college football. He was a caring, loyal friend to many, in ways big or small. That smile was a balm for everyone who knew him. He was a special person to all and all will miss him. Wake and Vigil Service for Alex "Tank" Herman will begin at 6 p.m. with an Omega Memorial and the Rosary and program following Friday January 11th at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. The Mass for Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday January 12th at Our Lady of Catholic Church located at 1321 S. Van Buren St., Little Rock, Ark.
