Faye Boyd Sartor

Faye Boyd Sartor, 58, of Collierville, Tenn., passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, at the Methodist Hospice Center in Memphis, Tenn. She was born at Dermott on Aug. 19, 1960, to the late Horace G. Boyd Jr. and Billie Dickson Boyd. She lived in many places in her lifetime but her growing up years were spent in Arkansas, including Portland, Dermott, McGehee, Monticello, Batesville, Little Rock and Hamburg. She graduated as valedictorian of her class at Hamburg High School in 1978. After high school, she attended Hendrix College in Conway and received an education degree. After scoring high on tests given after graduation, she was recruited by schools and after interviews, she chose a small town, Vivian, La., to teach. Her parents were living in Warren by this time and she called that home. While living in Vivian, she met her future husband, Mark Sartor, a Navy pilot. After the wedding, they moved to Corpus Christi, then to Maryland, then to New Orleans. After Mark retired from the Navy, he went to work at FedEx and they moved to Collierville, Tenn. Everywhere she lived, she taught school. She taught in public schools, private schools, charter schools and pre-schools. She is survived by her husband, Mark Kevin Sartor; three sons, Mark Ethan Sartor and spouse, Jane, of Little Rock, Louis Boyd Sartor and Daniel Stewart Sartor, both of Collierville; her mother, Billie Hickson Boyd of Warren; a brother, Horace G. Boyd III of Eureka Springs; and a favorite cousin, Lisa Landers Ramsey of Tulsa, Okla. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Horace G. Boyd Sr., and Gertrude Stroud Boyd, and Vernon C. Dickson and Annie Barrett Dickson, and a favorite cousin, Louis Boyd Landers. Visitation will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, and a memorial service at 4 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Collierville, Tenn. She raised her boys in Collierville. She was talented in music playing in the band in high school and was captain of the majorette line. She also played the piano. Her grandmother Boyd taught her and when she died, she left Faye her grand piano. All three of her sons played in the band and she was the uniform coordinator for five years. She was the Cub Scout leader for all three boys and they went on to be Scouts and achieved Eagle awards. When the youngest son was a Cub Scout, she was also the pack leader. At the final banquet, when the Cubs became Scouts, she was honored for her lifetime work with the Cubs. She was a lifetime active member of the Methodist Church.
