Fern Binz

Fern Binz, 75, of Little Rock, passed away peacefully of heart failure on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, in hospice comforted by friends and family. She was born to the late Henry and Emma Lee Parks on May 11, 1943, in Prescott, Arkansas. Fern was a 1961 graduate of Blevins High School where she played basketball as a Blevins "Hornet". During the 1970's, she volunteered as a basketball coach and librarian at Saint Edward's Catholic School where her five children attended. Fern was a loving mother, homemaker, and a remarkable cook who enjoyed preparing meals with all the "fixings" for her family of seven. She was a nature and animal lover as well. Her personality was full of wit and humor. When asked about her sense of humor, she replied, " I just take what people say and I flip it; if they laugh, then I've done my job." Her early years included family trips to Florida as well as camping and fishing at Old River Lake (Scott, Arkansas). She was an avid book reader and brainiac of crossword puzzles, the harder the better. Fern was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Emma Lee Parks, and by her loving husband of 52 years, John Arthur Binz. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Florence Brantley and her two grandsons, Mitchell Haber and Samuel Binz. She is survived by her five children, Terry Binz (Paula) of Little Rock, Arkansas, Stephen Binz (Dana) of Little Rock, Arkansas, Angelia Haber (Brad) of Centerville, Ohio, Christy Holeman (Barry) of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Danny Binz (Lindsey) of Little Rock, Arkansas; her five brothers and sisters, William Parks (Ann) of Camden, John Parks (Cindy) of Blevins, Linda Rowe of Hope, Pam Mosley (Hugh) of Bearden and Randy Parks of McCaskill; her grandchildren, Mathew Haber, Courtney Binz, Michael Haber, Preston Binz, Addison Binz, Autumn Finney and John Whitton Binz; great-grandchild, Emma Binz; as well as many nieces and nephews who completely adored her. Everyone who knew her will forever hold her near to their hearts. A memorial for Fern will be held at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 11 a.m., the family will receive guest beginning at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Heart Association at: https://www.heart.org/.
