Gloria Evans, 88, of Jacksonville passed away January 11, 2019. Gloria was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Willie and Leora George. She is survived by two sons, David (Vicky) and Steve (Pam), and six grandchildren - Tracy, Sarah, Megan, Jenna, Scott, and Michael, and eight great-grandchildren. Also, three sisters, Willa Oliver, Carolyn Nix, and Mary Jane Disbury. She was preceded in death by her husband, Les Evans, and sister, Sylvia Hicks. Gloria graduated from St. Anthony's School of Nursing in Oklahoma City and married 1st Lt. Leslie Evans. They traveled with the Air Force then settled in Jacksonville, Arkansas. Mrs. Evans was well liked and well known as she worked as a registered nurse in local doctors' offices. She went on to become head nurse in the primary care clinic of the Little Rock Air Force Base hospital. For her work there she won several awards including Arkansas' Federal Employee of the Year. Gloria was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville. After retiring from nursing, Gloria was a lay speaker for the church and also became involved in pastoral care. She enjoyed and looked forward to visiting those in hospitals and nursing homes. She was a beautiful and compassionate lady. She has left this world to meet her maker and rejoin those gone on before. Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, January 19, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville (982-2876). Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
