HELEN JOHNSON ADKINS, 83, of Little Rock, passed away peacefully at home January 24, 2019. Born in Dublin, Mississippi to the late James Elbert Yates and Irma Louise Cummings, she graduated from West Tallahatchie High School in Webb, Mississippi in 1953. At 17 years old, she moved to Memphis, where she graduated from Memphis School of Commerce. Helen gave her life to Christ and was active in Youth for Christ, attending Open Door Bible Church. In Memphis, she had various bookkeeping, secretarial, and payroll positions. One such job was bookkeeping at Memphis Home Equipment where Johnny Cash sold appliances while starting his music career, referring to her as "Yates". Helen devoted herself to her family and children. They moved to Little Rock in 1969, and in the early 1970s, after both children were in school, she embarked on her successful career in Real Estate, which went beyond a mere job. The clients she worked with became her life-long friends, along with coworkers from companies all over Little Rock. She retired from Adkins, McNeil, Smith and Associates Realtors, but kept her license active in order to continue helping her life-long client friends. She was an active member of Little Rock Bible Church and Fellowship Bible Church. She enjoyed hosting Sunday School dinner parties and her Bible study friends. Helen was married for 27 years to her loving husband Bob and spent her retirement years dedicated to her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was always generous and selfless in her love and devotion. Faith and family were the center of her life and she faced adversity with dignity and strength. She loved serving others and had a wonderful gift of hospitality, making everyone feel welcome and loved. Her generous and caring spirit blessed all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, Bob Adkins; son, Mark Johnson (Kathy); daughter, Diane Matchett (Rusty); and grandsons, Luke Johnson, Will Johnson and Kent Johnson, all of Little Rock; granddaughters, Laurel Matchett of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Julia Matchett of Houston, Texas; and a host of other family and friends. Services will be held on Monday, January 28 at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation beginning at 10 a.m., at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), officiated by Rev. Bill Parkinson. Burial will be at Pinecrest Memorial Park following the service. Arrangements by Little Rock Funeral Home, (501) 224-2200.
