Steven Leroy Jones

Steven Leroy Jones, son of Bob and Wilma Jones, was born on Aug. 26, 1952, at Norton County Hospital in Norton, Kan. He passed away on Jan. 16, 2019, at the age of 66. Steve grew up in Lenora, Kan., where he attended school, and he graduated from Lenora High School in 1970. He briefly attended Goodland Vo-Tech, majoring in diesel mechanics before his boss at a truck stop convinced him to quit, and he would mentor him on the job. Steve worked as a mechanic for several years. Eventually, he moved to Arkansas to enjoy fishing and boating. In 1992, Steve married Kay Werner. After retiring, Steve kept busy traveling and planting an annual garden of tomatoes. He tended to almost 100 tomato plants every year, with the produce being shared with friends and neighbors. With retirement time and native rock, he built an outdoor fireplace for heat and cooking. The area around the fireplace became his man cave with a roof, TV, Razorback flag, and a destination spot for neighboring friends to gather. Arrangements are under the care of Rollins Funeral Home.
