Joann Casteel of Little Rock passed away on July 3, 2019 at her home. Joann was born to Clyde and Esther Moore on March 20, 1935 in Garland County, Arkansas. She and her family lived in various towns in Arkansas, Missouri, and Illinois where her father worked in road, railroad and dam construction. Joann graduated from Russellville High School in 1952. She and her family (by then including her sister Cathy) moved to Little Rock in April, 1954. She worked at Westinghouse Electric Corporation downtown until she married Charles Casteel on July 10, 1959. She entered college at UALR in 1970, graduating with a bachelor's degree in business education in 1974. She completed 30 hours of master's work in library science. Joann worked as a school librarian, first at Geyer Springs Elementary, then at Fuller Junior High School and finally as the Media Center Director at the newly opened J.A. Fair High School, retiring in 1999. She always credits her friend, Pat Johnson, with showing her the ropes at Fuller and getting her started in her career. She loved the library, especially the Terry Branch of the Central Arkansas Library System. Joann also loved shopping, gardening and walking until her health began to weaken. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ, first at Sixth & Izard then WindSong. Joann loved her friends and was devoted to her family, including the four-legged members, Doodle and Tinker. Her school friends included the "old lady librarians" and "the dinosaurs". She enjoyed shopping for and sending cards to anyone with a birthday or other special occasion. She is survived by her daughter Angela (Gene) Parker, and her sister, Cathy Moore. She is also survived by several cousins in Arkansas and Missouri. A better sister or mother would be hard to find.
