Joel "Joy" Lane Gilmore, 93, of Conway, Ark., went to be with the Lord Thursday, July 11, 2019. He was born November 14, 1925, in Conway, Ark., to the late Chester and Annie (Farner) Gilmore. Joy was also preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Bill, Charles, Thurman "Doc", John and J.D. Gilmore, and Bess Medlin and Sue Martin. Joy was a member of Brumley Baptist Church in Conway. He loved life and his family. Joy served in WWII in the United States Army and worked at International Shoe Company and retired from Conway Corporation. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Joy was known to have gotten his nickname because he was a joy to be around and had a colorful personality. Left to cherish his memory is his loving family; his wife of 72 years, Laverne (Alumbaugh) Gilmore; daughters, Charlotte (Marshall) Cone of Conway and Phyliss (Larry) Fry of Conway; granddaughters, Danna (Josh) Poirot of Okla., and Layne (Dennis) Belen of Hawaii; great-grandsons, Clay Spadoni and Briar Poirot; sisters-in-law, Estelle Alumbaugh and Wanda Alumbaugh and a host of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Brumley Baptist Church or American Parkinson Disease Association. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Sunday, July 14, 2019, at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway. Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Monday, July 15, 2019 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home with interment to follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park in Conway.
