Mattie Sue (Emory) Anthony, 86, of Bismarck passed away on Saturday, July 20th peacefully in her sleep with her family by her side. Mattie Sue was born in Bismarck, Ark., on November 11, 1932. She married Dale Anthony on December 23, 1950 and was two weeks from celebrating her wedding anniversary of sixty-six years when Dale was called to his heavenly home. Mattie Sue and Dale married at ages 18 and 20 and spent their life living and working on the farm. As most wives and mothers, Mattie Sue cared for the family home and their three children but she also shared in the day to day demands of farm life whether it was bailing hay, feeding the cattle, or helping Dale with milking of the dairy cattle. There wasn't a job that Mattie Sue couldn't do or help Dale accomplish on the farm. On July 20th, she joined Dale in their heavenly home. We don't know if the home is on a farm, but we are certain that joy is overflowing. Mattie Sue is preceded in death by her husband, Dale Anthony; son-in-law Greg Hughes; parents, Odis Emory and Carrie Emory; sisters Marie Faulkner and Louise Beavers. Mattie Sue is survived by her son Bob (June) Anthony of Arkadelphia; daughter Beverly (Steve) Mayfield of Bryant; daughter Lynn Hughes of Bismarck; grandson Kyle (Mitzi) Overturf of Bismarck; granddaughter Ashlee (Andy) Vaughan of Arkadelphia; grandson Jordan (Leanne) Anthony of Hot Springs; granddaughters Taylor Hughes and Allison Hughes of Little Rock; great-grandsons Jackson Overturf and Sawyer Overturf and great-granddaughters Carsyn Vaughan and Cannyn Vaughan. A celebration service of Mattie Sue's life will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday July 23rd at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at New Bismarck Cemetery in Bismarck. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Those wishing to sign Mattie Sue's guestbook may do so at www.ruggleswilcox.com. Pallbearers are Kyle Overturf, Jordan Anthony, Andy Vaughan, Danny Crow, Steve Mayfield and Leon Thornton. The family expresses special thanks to Ursula Collins for her love and kindness and to the staff at Twin Rivers Health & Rehabilitation for the care and support given to Mattie Sue over the last five years.
