Coleman "Gene" Wells, 84, of Vilonia, Ark., went to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 23, 2019. He was born July 20, 1935, in Judsonia, Ark., to the late Matthew and Alpha (Wilcox) Wells. Gene was preceded in death by his brother, Roy Wells, and his daughter-in-law, Storme Wells.
Gene served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War for a total of 8 years. He was a proud, hardworking farmer, a devoted husband and wonderful father. There was never a doubt that he loved you. Gene was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Vilonia. He devoted his life to his family and his farm. He enjoyed working on his farm and tending to his cattle. Gene was loved very much by his friends and family, who will dearly miss his quiet wisdom and loving ways.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving family; his wife of 58 years, Mary Elizabeth (McNutt) Wells; sons, Tim Wright (Marilyn) of Fruitland, N.M. and Tom Wells of Vilonia, Ark.; daughter, Sharon Woodward (Harold) of Vilonia, Ark.; grandchildren, Gena Woodward, Whitney Carden (Gary), Ezra Watland, Addie Wells, Jessica Wright and Molly Wright; great-grandchildren, Drake, Garrett and Kynslee Carden; sister, Margie Rhoades of Fairbury, IL; brothers, Troy Wells (Lena) of Woodstock, IL and James Wells (Lorna) of Christchurch, N.Z.; special friend, Mallory Brooks Vinzant; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Saturday, July 27, 2019, at Friendship Baptist Church in Vilonia with visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., interment to follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park in Conway.
