Carrie Ann Washington, age 83 of Searcy, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2019, at Unity Health White County Medical Center. She was born August 1, 1935, in Batesville to Charles Elbert and Verna Mae Strong Robinson. After moving to Little Rock in 1937, she attended Stephens Elementary. She graduated from Dunbar High School in 1953 and attended AM&N College in Pine Bluff, graduating with a B.S. Degree in Education in 1958. She went on to receive a Masters of Arts degree in Elementary Education in 1966 becoming the second African American female to graduate from Harding College. After teaching remedial reading in Searcy for 24 years, she decided to further her studies by receiving a Reading Specialist Degree from Harding University in 1981 which gave her thirty hours above her master's degree. In 1998 she was honored as "Teacher of the Year" by the Searcy School District and eventually retired after 44 years. She is survived by one daughter, Tonya Graham (Kenneth Sr.), and one son, Todd Washington (Tammy), both of Little Rock; six grandchildren, Kenneth Graham Jr. of Little Rock, Kendrick Graham of Dallas, Texas, Vivian Washington, Kenton Graham, Tamera Washington, Vanessa Washington all of Little Rock; three great-grandchildren, Kadence Graham of Dallas, Kayla Graham of Little Rock, Addyson Graham of Dallas; one brother-in-law, Timothy Washington (Patsy) of Toledo, Ohio; three sisters-in-law, Katherine Brunson of Conway, Noralene Washington of Searcy, and Dorothy King (Priest) of Toledo. She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Porter Washington. Visitation will be Friday, June 7th from 6 until 8 pm at Powell Funeral Home, 2602 West Beebe Capps Expy in Searcy, Ark. 72143, (501) 268-7220. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Assembly of God, 101 Benton Avenue in Searcy, Ark. 72143, with interment to follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
