Robert Edward Maringer

Robert Edward Maringer, age 93, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. He was born on December 31, 1925, in Detroit, Michigan, to Peter and Caroline (Meier) Maringer. He is preceded in death by his two sons, Robert D. and John D. Maringer; his sister, Bette Monteith; and his brother, Peter Maringer. Bob grew up in Detroit Michigan and was an avid Boy Scout in his early years. World War II intruded upon his teen years, and he became a drill sergeant in the US Army in 1945 training troops destined to engage in the Battle of the Bulge. He was part of the muster for the invasion of mainland Japan, but the war ended before that operation went into effect and he became part of the AOC (Army of Occupation) of mainland Japan in 1946 and 1947. He went to college on the GI bill, earning a BS in Physics. He spent his entire working career at Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus Oho doing metallurgical research of various kinds, beginning with meteorite studies back in the day when meteorites were the only things we knew of that had been in space and survived re-entry. After the NASA space program solved the re-entry problem, he moved on to work on ways to make manufacturing processes more energy efficient, eventually authoring numerous patents on advanced processes for direct casting of wire and strip. He was an avid traveler and loved canoeing, biking, hiking, the seashore, and the mountains. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Louise (Lambert) Maringer; his son, Tom Maringer and wife Peggy of Springdale; his three grandchildren, Woody, Helen, and Cassie; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial reception will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Morningside of Fayetteville, at 4461 N. Crossover Road, Fayetteville, Ark. 72703.
