Nancy Drury McCullough Clark, 86, died June 10, 2019, at UAMS Hospital, as a result of a fall. A resident of Little Rock, she was the daughter of Murray and Martha McCullough (both deceased). Nancy was the oldest of seven children and was born June 2, 1933, in South Bend, Indiana. Nancy grew up in Little Rock and graduated from Little Rock Senior High School (now Central) in 1951. She obtained a degree in elementary education from UAF in 1955 and taught in Sylvan Hills, Little Rock (Trinity Episcopal School), Tampa Florida, and Boston, Massachusetts .She gave up teaching with the birth of her first child, Murray, in Germany. Nancy and Richard Clark married in 1957 and had four outstanding children, all now professionals. They are Murray (Rusty), Raymond (Debbie), Diana and Brett. She is survived by them, her husband of 61 years, five grandchildren, one sister and two brothers. She was an outdoor person, a nature lover, and a self-professed tree hugger. She enjoyed swimming, canoeing, nature walks, and bird watching. Her greatest accomplishment (in addition to her children) was the halting of a major traffic corridor along the Arkansas River, displacing Rebsamen Park Road. This highway would have destroyed Murray Park and seriously damaged Rebsamen Golf course. One day in 1988, while walking her dog Snooky, she noticed some orange/red flags near the lock and dam. She inquired and - the flags had been placed there to mark the highway to downtown!! Nancy mobilized a campaign, and with enormous help from from other individuals and organizations, including the Audubon Society and League of Women Voters, she stopped the project. The struggle was presented in great detail in the Arkansas Times, October 18.2018. She was active in the League of Women Voters and the Gilbert Marshal Chapter of the DAR. Nancy and Richard joined the Unitarian Universalist Church of Little Rock in 1967 and found it congenial, supportive. Affectionate and rational. Visitation will be held Friday evening, June 14, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth Funeral Home, 5800 W. 12th Street. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m., at UUCLR, 1818 Reservoir Road, Little Rock, Saturday, June 15 with Pastor Jan Nielsen officiating. Pallearers: Jeff Nash • Paul Nolte, Nathan Clark, David Clark.
