Calvin Gene Cook, 79, of Bentonville, Ark. passed away Monday, June 24, 2019 at Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville, Ark. He was born August 10, 1939 in County Line, Oklahoma to William Paul Cook and Willie Lorraine (Rogers) Cook. He spent his childhood in Delhi and Sayer, Oklahoma where he graduated from Sayre High School in 1958. Calvin was married to Georgia Faye (Howell) Cook on November 1, 1957, at the Bulo, Oklahoma Church of Christ, to this union was born Janice Faye (Cook) Taylor and Darla Jean (Cook) Ringo. Calvin first started his career at a service station in Sayre, OK. Years later, he and Georgia Faye owned the DX service station. After his service station days, he became a welder at Arkansas Louisiana Gas Company (ARKLA), and then became a district field supervisor. Calvin retired from ARKLA Gas Company after 30 years in 1996. Following his retirement, he opened a computer business and taught computer classes at Western Oklahoma Vo-Tech in Sayre, Okla. Retirement also brought him the opportunity to spend time enjoying his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Calvin was a longtime member of the Sayre Church of Christ before moving to Bentonville, Ark. in 2008. In Arkansas, he became an active member of the Cave Springs Church of Christ. Calvin enjoyed working with the church to implement new audio/visual technologies, Facebook live broadcast and creating an online church directory. He was preceded in death by his parents and 11 siblings. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Georgia Faye of the home; two daughters, Janice Taylor and husband, Tom of Bentonville and Darla Ringo and husband, Jeff of Cordell, Okla.; a granddaughter, Missy Johnson and husband, Josh of Bentonville; two grandsons, Trea Taylor and wife, Anna of Rogers, Ark. and Max Ringo and wife, McKenzie of Ft. Worth, Texas; the pride of his life, his four great-grandchildren, Caden Memphis Johnson, Rylan Greer Johnson, Norah Bryn Johnson and Leo Calvin Taylor; and close friend and neighbor, Jason Rabel of Bentonville. Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Cave Springs Church of Christ with Pastor Steve Schinnerer officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family ask for donations to be made to the Ronald McDonald House of Northwest Arkansas.
