It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Virgil Afton Embry. Afton left this earth for his heavenly home on June 24, 2019 at the age of 77. He leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Mary Ann Embry of Springdale, two sons: Allen Embry and wife Brenda, and Richard Embry and wife Mary of Hindsville, five grandchildren: Joe Embry and wife Sarah, Matthew Embry and wife Misty, Jacob Embry and wife Kiersten, Julie Evans and husband Dakota, Leslie Wabaunsee and husband Gage, seven great-grandchildren: Blakley, Luke, Lucy, Hallie, Mariam, Brynlee, and Barrett, brother Rex Embry and sister Mildred Johnson, both of Modesto, Calif. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, one grandchild, and one great-grandchild. Born September 19, 1941, the youngest of eleven children, Afton came to Springdale from Ft. Smith in 1963 to form West-Ark Electric. His integrity as a businessman not only gained him respect from the community, but also formed many lasting friendships. He was a charter member of the Robinson Ave. Church of Christ devoting his life to the members and visitors who attended. His personality and generosity extended to those in need or to those that needed his unique encouragement. For the family, Afton was an influential example and vital part of our lives. His down to earth manner kept us grounded while his amusing antics kept us laughing. His love for family was apparent and we were especially honored and privileged that he was able to officiate the weddings of all his grandchildren. His spirit will forever be with us. In honor of his memory, please join us in a Celebration of Life to be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Robinson Ave. Church of Christ in Springdale from 5-7 p.m. The family request donations in his name be made to Willard Walker Hospice Home or Hope Cancer Resources. Arrangements entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home 3926 Willowood Springdale.
