Harry F. Barnes, age 86, died February 27, 2019 at the Ouachita County Medical Center in Camden, Ark. Judge Barnes was born on May 14, 1932 in Memphis, Tenn. to Jack and Roberta Crutcher Barnes. Judge Barnes grew up in Joiner, Ark. and was a graduate of Castle Heights Military Academy. He attended Vanderbilt University for two years, and he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1956 with an engineering degree. He served for 30 years in the United States Marine Corps. He retired from the Marine Corps Reserve in 1986 at the rank of Colonel. Judge Barnes graduated from the University of Arkansas School of Law in 1964. He was in the private practice of law in Camden for 20 years, initially as law partner of former representative, senator and governor, David Pryor. From 1975 until 1993 he served as a municipal and then circuit judge. In 1993, Judge Barnes was nominated by President Bill Clinton to a seat on the United States District Court for the Western District of Arkansas. After his confirmation by the U.S. Senate, Judge Barnes served as federal judge for the next 25 years. Judge Barnes is a member of the First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mary Barnes of Camden; sons, Danny Barnes of Little Rock, Michael Barnes and wife, Suzi of Little Rock, and Patrick Barnes and wife, Lisa of Rogers; daughter, Betsy Ridout and husband, Ross of Searcy, AR; grandchildren, Sydney Barnes, Abbey Barnes, Zeke Barnes Ridout and wife, Bitsy; Rivers Ridout, Rees Ridout, Rooke Ridout, Jack Barnes and Brittanie Sparlin; and great-granddaughters, Sloane Barnes and Rowan Barnes. Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in Camden. Rev. Beth Waldrup will officiate the service.
