Helen Dale McAlexander Springer Kieffer

Helen Dale McAlexander Springer Kieffer (9-6-1919 - 2-28-19) age 99 years, died peacefully at the Woodruff County Health Center in McCrory, Ark. Born in Augusta, Ark., the was the daughter of William Clinton and Addie David McAlexander and the granddaughter of Elbert and Josina Davis Davis and Hugh L. Vallie Bonham McAlexander all of Augusta. Helen graduated from Laura Conner High School in Augusta in 1938, attended Arkansas State University in 1938-1940 and graduated from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. She was a Registered Nurse with a career which spanned almost 50 years. She was well known to several generations in Woodruff County through her work for the Woodruff County Health Department and the Augusta Medical Clinic. She married Charles Nealon Springer in 1942 and they were married for 46 years until his death in 1988. She married Nicholas C. Kieffer Jr. in Guld Shores, Ala. in 1989. When he died in 2003 she moved back to Augusta and lived with her brother, Lindy McAlexander. At his death, Helen moved into the John Davis Woodruff Center in McCrory, subsequently she lived to the WCHC Nursing Home where she lived at the time of her death. Judge John Davis, for whom the center was named, was Helen's first cousin and close friend. Helen never had children, but was especially close to her niece, Dr. Mary Bonner (Mike Hale) and her children, David Bonner and Stephen Bonner of Little Rock, Holley Bonner Ford of Paragould and Ian McAlexander Ford of Jonesboro and Sara Ford Cross of Kennett, Mo. She is also survived b y two brothers, Hugh McAlexander of Ft. Worth, Texas an Tom McAlexander of Lacanda, Calif.; and 16 nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by three brothers, Bill, Bob and Lindy McAlexander and two sisters, Dorothy Walker Battles and Sina McAlexander Taggart. She will be buried beside her first husband in Augusta Memorial Park with arrangements made by Rhodes and Son Funeral Home. There will be a graveside service officiated by Father Desam of St. Mary's Catholic Church on 3-6-19. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Helen's name to the Woodruff County Health Center where the staff has been especially kind and helpful.
