James Lewis Barber, 90, of Lincoln, Ark. passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019 in Prairie Grove. He was born May 13, 1928 in Magdalena, New Mexico, the son of Lewis Washington and Ormetta Barber of Big Spring, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father and mother; along with two sisters, Hazel and Betty; five brothers, Larlus Barber, Billy Barber, Hubert Barber, Dois Barber and Ronald Barber of West Texas; and one son, James Martin Barber of Big Spring, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army/U.S. Air Force and was a WWII veteran. He was blessed with a God-given talent for working on automobiles as a mechanic. James was a hardworking man and made a good living which provided for his family. Along with this, a blessing, the most important issue was that he was a God-called evangelist and served in the ministry as an evangelist from 1955 to 2005. He was part of numerous revivals, meetings and locations. James is survived by his wife, Zella Mae Barber of 69 years of the home; two daughters, Darlene Shaffer and Linda McWilliams, both of Lincoln, Ark.; sons, Larry Barber of Sulfur Springs, Texas, Lewis Barber, David Barber, Jerry D. Barber, Paul Barber (all of Lincoln, Ark.) and Michael Douglas Barber of Centerton, Ark.; 23 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2019 at First Assembly of God Church, 314 E. Rogers St, Lincoln, Ark. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the church.
