Nadine McIlvoy
Nadine McIlvoy, 87, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2019 in Jonesboro. Nadine was born October 3, 2931 in Poinsett County to the late Buchanan Harmon Downs and Ollie Pearl Lawson Downs.
She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Weiner for 70 years and was the parish's oldest female member at the time of her death. Nadine attended Cash High School, where she was a member of the ladies' basketball team and was remembered in her yearbook as "Who's more polite than Nadine Downs?"
She loved her church, her family and her Razorback sports. She also enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, and an occasional scratch-off ticket. Nadine worked at the Southern Brown Rice until retiring in 2003.
She was a wonderful homemaker and cook but would worry before each meal saying, "I hope it's fit to eat." It always was. She was known for her cherished "Nannie's Pickles" recipe, which became an annual canning event with her family. She made the best chocolate pie and count make a convert of even the most ardent non-pie eater. She was kind, funny and sharp as a tack until the very end. She lived a fine life for 87 years.
She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn McIlvoy and Robin Anschultz (Leonard); grandchildren, Brandon Anschultz (Christopher Price) and Jade Gustin (Scott). She is preceded in death by her husband, Bob McIlovy; son, Ron "Tosh" McIlvoy; a daughter, Lisa Jo McIlovy; grandson, Josh Bigham McIlovy and her siblings, Jane Duszynski and Betty Burger.
Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m., Tuesday March 12, 2019 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Weiner with Father Mike Sinkler officiating. Interment will follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery under the direction of Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home. A rosary prayer will be said beforehand at 3 p.m. Online: www.gregglangfordbookoutfh.com.
