George Lamar Cole, 87, passed away March 10, 2019. He was born October 14, 1931 in West Helena, Ark. to Lamar and Anna Cole. Lamar was a graduate of Helena-West Helena Central High School. He earned his Bachelor of Music Education from Arkansas State College and his Master's in Administration from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Ark. Lamar served the 74th Army Band during the Korean War. He was the Wynne High School Band Director and Principal for 15 years. Lamar retired after 26 years with the Arkansas Activities Association, for 13 years as the Executive Director. Lamar served on over 30 civic and religious affiliations throughout his life. Most recently the Governor's Advisory Council on Aging, Northwest Medical Center Auxiliary, CEO Food Pantry, and the Fayetteville Public Library's Reading Road Show. Lamar was a member of St. Joe's Catholic Church and the former Fayetteville Town Club. Lamar and his wife, Dot shared 65 years of marriage. They have two daughters Cara Cochran (Danny), Kim Autry (Ron); four grandsons Josh Clinton (Abby), Adam Crosson (Allison), Garland Autry (Sarah), Garrett Autry (Alex); seven great grandchildren; special relative Jean Harvey, Don Baier, many dear friends and former students, and Buddy, the squirrel. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the community of friends at Brookstone Assisted Living, the compassionate medical staff at WRMC and Willard Walker Hospice. Memorial Mass will be 10:30 am Friday March 15, 2019 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Fayetteville.
