Carlton Ray Baker, age 81, of East End Community, passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2019. Carl was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on July 17, 1937. He was raised in Galveston, Texas, graduating from Ball High School. Carl served in the military for the next 22 years, first in the US Army, at age 17, where he was stationed in Germany on the Iron Curtain and then in the US Navy, retiring in 1975. He served commendably at various duty stations throughout his career including the USS Harry E. Hubbard, USS Frontier, USS Charles P. Cecil, USS Air Station, Midway Island, USS Bordelon, Naval Administrative Command Training Center, Great Lake, Illinois and River Boat Patrol Force in the Republic of Viet Nam. His career after retiring from the Navy included positions as the Food Service Director for the Department of Human Services Youth Services, Division of Children and Family Services and the Department of corrections in both Arkansas and Texas. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Clayte and Opal Baker, brothers: Joe Grover, Larry Baker and a sister-in law, Brenda Baker all of Little Rock; brother in law, Jeff Hardin of Center Ridge and sister in law Carol Carrol of Alaska. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Mary Hardin Baker, children: Mike Jacobsen (Debbie) Arizona, Sean Baker (Susan) Virginia, Tammy Allen, East End, Jo Lynn Lyons, (Terry) McCray, Ark., Beven Baker, Boston and Clayton Baker, Little Rock; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be held at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, 1501 W. Maryland Avenue, North Little Rock, Ark., Monday, March 25, 2019 at 1 p.m. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to all the family, friends, staff of Heartland Rehabilitation and to all of the staff and friends at Twin Lakes Country Club and Golf for the love and support during this difficult journey.
