Dr. Muriel Morgan Chism

Dr. Muriel Morgan Chism died on March 14, 2019 at her home in Rogers. She was born on February 7, 1926 in New York City. She was a directress of Montessori schools in Oklahoma City, New Orleans, Denver, and Dallas, and also a public school teacher in Bentonville and Rogers. In 1986 and 1987 she was selected Rogers Teacher of the Year, and she was selected as Arkansas Teacher of the Year in 1987. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi and Phi Delta Kappa honorary societies, and was a past president of Beta Pi chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma society. Dr. Chism was listed in the 1990 edition of "Who's Who Among American Teachers". As a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Rogers, she, for many years, served as a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Altar Guild, and a member of the Vestry, including serving as Senior Warden. Additionally, she directed a Montessori style summer kindergarten program for a few years. Survivors include her daughters, Patricia Warren Chism, Joan Morgan Chism-Diebold and husband Gary Diebold; three grandchildren, David Lewis and husband Cormac, Jacob Brown, Tiffany Chism; and one great-granddaughter, Jacee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Maynard and Nettie Louise (Smith) Morgan; and her husband, James Warren Chism, Col. U.S. Army (retired). Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 18 at Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers. Burial will be in Fayetteville National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m., where she will be laid to rest with James. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church in Rogers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity, Benton County Humane Society, and The Trevor Project.
