I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. Eugene Charles Keister, age 95, went to be with his Heavenly Father on March 18, 2019, at Willard Walker Hospice in Fayetteville. He was born on March 29, 1923, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, to James and Gertrude M. (Alexander) Keister. Eugene proudly served his country in World War II in the 782nd tank battalion under the direction of General Patton's 3rd army on the European front. He was a life member of the VFW Post 2722 and the American Legion Post 27. He was well known in the community for his participation in numerous veteran activities including riding in the Veteran's Day parade and speaking at the Fayetteville National Cemetery on Memorial Day. He loved his country and his family. He will be missed greatly. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Alma Keister; two daughters, Phyllis Brooks of Fayetteville, and Sheila Budd of Alford, Florida; three granddaughters, Jody Shipp and husband David of Winslow, Sarah Blake of Fayetteville, and Lindsay Budd Prickett and husband Brandon of Donalsonville, Georgia; nine great-grandchildren, Matthew (Rachel) Shipp, Joshua (Nicole) Shipp, Kailisa (Cory) Smith, Jasmine Blake, Kobe Blake, Cayden Blake, Chloe Blake and Emalee Blake, all of Fayetteville, and Caleb Prickett of Donalsonville, Georgia; and he was blessed with five great-great-grandchildren at the time of his passing. A visitation will be held from 4-6 pm on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville.
