Anna Lea Gieck Walker was born February 6, 1931 in Heber Springs, AR and died March 24, 2019. She is predeceased by her parents Herman and Ruth (Harmon) Gieck and brother Bill H. Gieck. Ann was very active in municipal and state government. She was deputy city clerk for Ms. Lola Cole and later became city clerk, serving over 20 years. As member of the Arkansas Municipal League, she served on the Executive Committee for many years as well as the AML Municipal Health Benefit Trust. She was appointed by then-Governor Bill Clinton to serve on the first Board of Trustees for the AR Police and Fire Retirement (LOPFI). As city clerk she was a member of the Arkansas City Clerks and Treasurers Association and the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, where she also served on various committees. She was one of the first clerks in Arkansas to receive the designation of Certified Municipal Clerk as well as membership into the Advanced Institute. Upon retirement she received designation of Life-time Member of the AML. She also worked as patient advocate at Crestpark and later was the receptionist at Turpin Funeral Home for several years. Ann was a member of Southside Baptist Church where she served in many capacities. She was organist for over 40 years. She is survived by her children, Jane Jackson, Gail Northcutt and Robin (Terry) Harris, all of Stuttgart; grandchildren, Candice Criswell of Jonesboro and Lee (Kaylie) Harris of Texarkana; and nephew Brant Gieck and family of North Little Rock. Visitation will be from 4:30-6 p.m. Tuesday at Turpin Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services, officiated by Bro. Gregg Greenway, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Olive Valley Cemetery in Heber Springs.
