Charles G Hughes

Charles G. Hughes age 82, of Arkadelphia, passed away Monday, March 25, 2019 in Little Rock. He was born November 2, 1936 in Whelen Springs, AR., one of nineteen children to James Hardy and Dovie Dee Davis Hughes. Charles graduated from Gurdon High School in 1955 where he was captain of the Go-devil football team and prom king for Gurdon High School. He served twenty years in the United States Air Force, was a veteran of the Vietnam War and retired as a Master Sergeant. Afterwards he taught electronics at Ouachita Vocational in Malvern and worked at the Arkadelphia Post Office for many years. Survivors are his wife of 61 years, Phyllis Firestone Hughes; four children, Deloris Lynders of Arkadelphia, Steven Hughes (Shanna) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mary Jernigan (Cleve) of Rogers, Arkansas and John Hughes (Teresa) of Des Moines, Iowa; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one sister, Fannie Bee Ogle of Rogers, Arkansas. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 28th at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 29th at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will be DeRoche Cemetery. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association. Online guest register is available at www.ruggleswilcox.com.
