Beloved matriarch Mildred Jean Lush Toon departed this life on Tuesday, March 26, 2019. She was born on March 2, 1929, in Wax, K.,, to Ida Johnston and Leo Lush. The youngest of 16 children, she spent her days on the family farm with her best sister-friend, Audrey. She graduated from Clarkson High School and attended Western Kentucky State Teachers College. Her teaching career began at a one-room schoolhouse in Iberia, KY. In March of 1950, Thomas Gibson Toon left a hunting rifle on top of his car and lost it along a small Kentucky highway. He made his way up a drive to ask about that gun. Mildred's mother was pretty suspicious about the handsome young man checking out her youngest daughter. They married on November 4, 1950. Nine devoted children soon followed along with a succession of Volkswagen Buses. Mildred lost her beloved husband, Tom, on April 21, 1985. She spent the rest of her days traveling the world to visit children, grandchildren and special family friends. If you needed to find her, you'd be best off looking in the aisles of Tuesday Morning or, later on, poking around Walmart on a scooter. She loved a good rummage sale and spent countless hours sorting and pricing at the Catholic High Junktique Sale (y'all get over there this weekend!) She loved her St. Theresa's Parish and loved to loan items from her collection of linens & decorations for many occasions in the Parish Hall. Apart from her bridge clubs, Mildred devoted her time and talents to her family and her extended Parish family. Mildred was predeceased by her son, Joseph Mark Toon and her daughter, Marcia Jean Toon Pinson. Mildred leaves to cherish her memory her best friend and sister, Audrey Wortham; seven of her nine children; 24 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren (another five on the way!); countless nieces; nephews; cousins, and many others who called her Mama Toon. Children: Ben Toon (Kay), Annette Fly (Ron), Marcia Pinson (dec.), Tommy Toon (Karen), Mark Toon (dec.), Cynthia Knox (Craig), Lisa Caserta (Frank), Lewis Toon, and Stephanie Caruthers (Brooks). Grandchildren: Geoffrey, Jared, Andrew; Lauren, Catherine, Mary Margaret, Garrett, Michael; Patrick, Alex, Stuart; Tamara, Melissa, Rebecca; Jesse, Julie, Natalie; Kimberly, Megan, Robin; Brian, Kristin; Audrey, and Celeste. Great-grandchildren: Sasha, Will, Jason; Cadence, Johnston; Luke; Graham; Allie, Olivia, Zoe, Henry, Magnolia, Francina; James; Emmaline; and Jasper. Raise a glass of good Kentucky Bourbon for her. If you have a red sock, stash your bottle in it, and save some for your mint julep on Derby Day. Join us to celebrate her life on Friday, March 29, at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, 6219 Baseline Rd., Little Rock, AR. Rosary begins at 4:30 p.m. Memorial Mass at 5 p.m. If you have a hat, wear it! In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Theresa's Catholic Church or the St. Theresa's Altar Society. Arrangements by Roller-Chenal Funeral Home.
