Stephen "Speedy" Gonzales, 84, of Cabot, "our hero, our daddy and our protector", passed away at his home surrounded by his family on May 7, 2019. He was born June 2, 1934 in Oakland, California to the late Estevan Gonzales and Monica Perez Gonzales Fernandez. "Speedy" retired as a truck driver from the City of Cabot. He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard. "Speedy" was a founding member of Central Arkansas Pickups, enjoyed restoring '55 and '56 Ford pickups and bowling. He had many friends and helped when he saw a need. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Deloris Mattson. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Virginia Cole Gonzales; children, Carolyn (Ronnie) Garrett of Greenbrier, Stephen P. (JoAnna) Gonzales and Kristina (Terry) Goforth of Austin; eight grandchildren, Nikki (Sean) Wright, Kelly (Ryan) Hight, Stephanie (Cory) Roberson, Nick (Teresa) Goforth, Monica (Patrick) Swint, Cole (Maddie) Gonzales, Brad (Christen) McGee and Ethan (Kim) McGee; sixteen great-grandchildren; sister, Sue (Richard) Kuns of South Lake Tahoe, California; brother, David Gonazles of Richmond, California; his faithful, four-legged companion, Ginger and a host of other family and friends. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Friday, May 10, 2019 at Moore's Cabot Funeral Home with "Stubby" Stumbaugh officiating. Interment will follow at Sumner Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Thursday, May 9, 2019 at the funeral home.
