Catherine Ruby Gray, RN, 88, of Greenland died Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Washington Regional Medical Center located in Fayetteville. She was born December 7, 1930 in Canandaigua, New York the daughter of Dewey and Ruby Gage. She grew up and graduated in Canandaigua, she worked as a nurse in Rochester, New York, where she met her husband when he was serving his Surgical Rotation. They moved to Northwest Arkansas in late 1950's. She then raised her family in Greenland, Arkansas. Catherine was the school nurse of Greenland School District for many years. She was a mentor for many future nursing students at Greenland High School. Then she went to be The Director of Nursing for Holland Nursing Homes. She took an active role in establishing the PTA of Arkansas, also served as the PTA President of Arkansas and served on the national level. Catherine coached Girl's Softball for many years. She helped establish the Red Cross Swimming Program of Washington County. She loved to watch her children, grands, and greats participate in all their many activities. She enjoyed working puzzles, crosswords, swimming, and shopping for others. She was preceded in death by: her parents, two brothers; Harvey Gage, Raymond Gage, and two sisters; Patty Grahame and Marion Fladd. Catherine is survived by her family whom she fiercely loved including her husband of 67 years; Dr. Thomas W. Gray, whom she married December 15, 1951, four sons; Thomas W. Gray II and wife Ann, of Little Flock, Stephen Gray and wife Jill, of Georgia, Raymond Gray and wife Judy, of Texas, Peter Gray, of Greenland, three daughters; Patsy Campbell and husband Randy, of Farmington, Christine Harrison and husband Stacey, of West Fork, Ruthy Overholt and husband Scott, of North Carolina, one brother; Walter Gage and wife Joan, of New York, one sister; Donna Ratzel, of New York, one brother-in-law; Johnny Fladd, of New York, one sister-in-law; Susan Gage Bour, of New York, many cousins, nieces and nephews, 28 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and expecting another great-grandson in July. Visitation will be Friday, May 31, 2019 from 10am until service time at First Baptist Church located in Farmington. A celebration of Catherine's life will begin at 11am at the church. Interment will follow at Baptist Ford Cemetery located in Greenland. Memorials may be sent to the Catherine Gray Nursing Student Scholarship Fund at NWACC, to be set up at ARVEST Bank.
