Michael Dunn Gates, age 78, of Crossett, Ark., passed away on Friday, November 1, 2019 at his home. He was born on July 10, 1941 in Crossett, Ark., to Phillip Goddard Gates, Jr. and Lois Pistole Gates. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent much of his time duck hunting and fishing. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Arts and was a beloved teacher in Crossett for 12 years. He then became a master plumber until his retirement. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and bonding over shared experiences. He raised fox trotter horses and limousine cattle at his farm in Crossett. In the mountains of Colorado at Gates Camp, he and his family spent many summers making fond memories. His great-grandfather, Cap Gates, was a founder of the City of Crossett and was associated with the forestry products at the Crossett Mill. Michael believed strongly in his great-grandfather's legacy and loved the City of Crossett dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Barbara Bright Gates and one brother, Phillip G. Gates, III. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 15 years, Sharon Kaye Scriber Gates; Brother, Anthony Gates of Hensley, Ark.; two sisters, Rose Gates Roan of Fort Worth, Texas and Ellen Gates Massey of Louisville, Ky.; Three stepsons, Jerry L Scriber of Crossett, Ark., Kirk Scriber (Mary Katherine) of Pass Christian, Miss., A. Barret (Nini) of New Orleans, La., 11 grandchildren; Mary Raines Scriber, Taylor Ladd Scriber, Patricia Brooks Scriber, Hastings Marks Scriber, William Ernst Scriber, Jerry Leo Scriber, Walter Watson Scriber, Ladd Drouin Scriber, Dorothy Grace Scriber, Julian Baldwin Scriber and Eleanor Robinson. Funeral services are 10 a.m., on Monday, November 4, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Crossett, Ark., with Bro. Jamie Staley and Jack Allen officiating. Visitation is from 4-6 p.m., on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at Jones Funeral Home, INC. Pallbearers are Chuck Allen, Gary Fife, Brad Mckean, Cary Carter, Tony Blann, Brett Cato and Jonathan Gates. Honorary Pallbearers are Phillip Gilmore's Sunday School Class, Jacob Allen, Doug Thurman and Barry Dolan. Interment will be at Lakewood Cemetery.
