Melvin Eugene Mayfield, 88, of Little Rock, Arkansas passed away November 12, 2019. He was born November 28, 1930 to Thomas and Chloda Mayfield in Lebanon, Missouri. He started working at thirteen years old and was self-supporting ever since. He was a man of limited education who worked many jobs, a successful businessman who provided well for his family through hard work, determination and the will to provide a good life for his wife and children. He was the owner and operator of Sunset Lane Mobile Home Park for 25 years and also was in sales. Melvin enjoyed fishing, Whoppers, and scratch offs. He was always there for his family, there was nothing he wouldn't do for them. We commonly say family is a priority for a person but for him it truly was what he lived for. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Lucille Mayfield; children, Becky Stringham (Larry) and Gina Redford; Pepaw and Poppie to his grandchildren, Brooke Mayfield Buckley (Sam Heard), Bryan Martin, Mandy Engel Butler (Stephen), Nicholas Engel (Mikey Tackett), Jilian Thomas, Kadi Lindsey (Sean), Sydni Redford, and Ian Redford; and great-grandchildren, Griffin, Haden, Sophie, Jasper, Zoe, Edie, Aria, Sawyer, and Marlie. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Wanda Chandler; brother, Preston Mayfield; son, Kerry Alden Mayfield; grandson-in-law, Chad Buckley. Memorials may be made to Pulaski County Humane Society, 14600 Colonel Glenn Road, Little Rock, Ark. 72210. Visitation will be at 10 a.m., followed by a Funeral at 11 a.m. Friday, November 15, 2019 at Smith-North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main Street. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery.
