Georgia Mae Hooks Smith, 88, of Banks, Arkansas passed away Monday, October 21, 2019 at Chapel Woods Health and Rehabilitation in Warren, Arkansas. She was born in Banks on June 22, 1931 to Warren Frank and Maude B. Mosley Hooks. She was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings: Sue Johnson, Lillian Baker, Warren Thomas Hooks, and an infant brother. She is survived by her husband of 70 years William Thomas ( Jaker) Smith, whom she married on April 16, 1949; and four daughters: Linda McDiarmid (Danny) of Banks; Rebecca Poole (Tommy) of Eudora; Judy Vickers (Jerry) of Jacksonville, North Carolina; and Penny Van der Zwalm (Randall) of Banks. Georgia was blessed with six grandchildren: Tony Vickers, Jason McDiarmid, Clay Poole, Sarah Poole Sabbatini, Trent and Christopher Van der Zwalm; and 12 great-grandchildren. Her surviving siblings are Shelby Kiersey and Dixie Young of Banks. Georgia graduated salutatorian of her class at Banks High School in 1949. She went on to work as Banks School System's cafeteria supervisor, then to work at South Arkansas Community Action Corporation, where she retired in 1993. She was an active member of Banks Missionary Baptist Church; served in the hospital auxiliary; and the extension homemakers club. She enjoyed camping and hosting her family and friends in her home. Georgia Mae's advice for life was "Keep your strength in God; follow your heart; and all things are possible." In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to McFarland Cemetery Association, 125 Bradley Road 377 Banks, Arkansas 71631. Visitation is Tuesday October 22 from 6-8 p.m. at Frazer's Funeral Home in Warren, Arkansas. The funeral service will be held at Frazer's Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday at 2 p.m., with graveside services to follow at McFarland Cemetery in Banks, Arkansas. www.frazerfuneralhome.com.
