Marion Cannatella

Marion Cannatella died at the age of 80 on Wednesday, October, 23, 2019 at the Lake Village Rehabilitation and Care Center in Lake Village, Arkansas. For the last two years she endured the impediments of Parkinson's disease, strokes and colorectal cancer with true grit. Marion was born December 22, 1938, in Brooklyn, N.Y. to the late James and Nellie (Maxwell) Millar, Scottish immigrants. She was the baby sister of the late Gilbert Millar and Janet Masson. In addition to her parents and siblings, she is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Cannatella, her son, Jeffery Cannatella, her daughter-in-law, Joni Cannatella and grandson Matthew James Cannatella. Marion is survived by her sons, Melvin (Jim) Cannatella (Lake Village, Ark.) and Andrew Cannatella, wife Schyler (Greenville, Miss.); daughters, Catherine Cannatella (Eudora, Ark.), Marian Clinton (West Monroe, La.), and Linda Nell Hunter (Madison, Miss.); grandchildren, Jeffery (Chris) Cannatella, wife Heather, John Cannatella, wife Natalie, Haley Clinton, and Mary Madeline Hunter; great-0grandchildren, Elijah James Cannatella, Matthew Fisher Cannatella, Mackenzie Reed Cannatella, Charlotte Lynn Cannatella and Victoria Evelyn Cannatella. After high school graduation, Marion attended a business school where she gained the skills necessary to be a proficient secretary. While working in New Orleans, La. she met and married (1958) Melvin John Cannatella. She left the business world to tend to her children, home and yard. Her home was a hub of activity. Besides being filled with numerous children, the home was a paradise for animals. Marion was passionate about caring for her pets- dogs, cats, birds, hamsters and fish. She was a one-woman rescue shelter for dogs and cats. Marion would spend hours smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee with her friends as children came and went. Once the children were grown and out of the house, Marion began volunteering at the Lake Village Food Pantry where she enjoyed socializing with the other volunteers as much as providing a service to those in need. Marion was a communicant of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and a member of The Altar Society. The family recognizes with sincere appreciation Willie white, Frances Dixon, and Cheryl Davies, who so lovingly cared for Marion, and all the friends who visited with her during the past year of her confinement. Pallbearers are Paul Cashion, Icer Crouse, Patrick Hicks, David Hunter, James Hunter and David Pieroni. Visitation will be held at Bishop-King Funeral Home Chapel from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, October 27, 2019 followed by a recitation of the rosary at 6 p.m. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church Monday, October 28, 2019 at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Isidore Cemetery, Lake Village, Ark. Following the burial service, all are invited to attend lunch served by The Altar Society in the Parish Hall.
