Chester Odell Hayes, Jr. was called home on October 25, 2019. Born July 21, 1944 in Glendale, Calif. Chet was preceded in death by his father, Chester Hayes, and his mother and stepfather, Mary Gilliland Woods and Cecil Woods. He is survived by his wife, Janice Hayes of West Fork; three daughters, Sarah Hayes of Virginia, Laura Hayes of West Fork, and Katie Hayes Fedder (Bill) of Virginia; grandson Hayes Fedder of Virginia; and lifelong friends Jerry and Shirley Durning of Fayetteville. Chet was raised in Northwest Arkansas and graduated from Fayetteville High School and the University of Arkansas. He served in the Vietnam War and spent his career as an environmental engineer in the United States Air Force. Through his job he traveled extensively and served in several conflicts before retiring. He chose to work hard and retire young so that he could settle down with his wife Jan and enjoy his many hobbies and interests. In the last twenty years he has taken her all over the world and spent countless hours on his tractor or out in the woods at his farm. Chet was devoted to his mother and stepfather in their final years. A service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville, with a private burial at Son's Chapel.
