Jean Warren Pollard

Jean Warren Pollard, age 92, left her earthly home on October 26, 2019. She was the widow of James S Pollard Jr. and the daughter of Charles F. and Adah Steele Sanders. She was born in Stuttgart, Ark., on April 4, 1927. Pollard was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years in 1995, her parents, a daughter Mary Charla Pollard Waters, a great-grandchild Fischer Prislovsky, her brother Charles F. Sanders Jr and his wife Jean Holston Sanders, her sister-in-law Joan Pollard Thomas and her husband John A. Thomas and her nephew Scott Sanders. Pollard is survived by her son Steele Pollard and her daughter Misti Coker and her husband Jay, all of Stuttgart. She leaves behind six grandchildren, Jeff Pollard, Jackie Pollard Prislovsky (Hunter), Lauren Coker Stringer (Marc), Katie Henderson (Tyler), Anna Coker, all of Stuttgart, and Carli Waters McCartney (Tyler) of Springdale; and six great-grandchildren, Seth Davies of Haskins, Warren and Carlee Pollard of DeWitt, Barrett Henderson, Trapper Prislovsky and Gunner Prislovsky, all of Stuttgart. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was an elder. Pollard served as a Sunday school teacher, member of the choir and as President of the Stuttgart Presbyterian Women. She was a life member of Presbyterian Women USA and had served as a coordinator to 10 Arkansas Presbyterian Churches. Pollard was a 1945 graduate of Stuttgart High School. She was a member of the National Honor Society, played the oboe in the band and served as treasurer in the Delta Beta Sigma Sorority. She attended the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Civically, Pollard was named Stuttgart's Citizen of the Year in a tie with Dr. Jim Bisbee in 1975. They both went on to receive state awards. She had volunteered almost 2000 hours as Arkansas County Chairman of the United States Bicentennial celebration. As chairman, she had Arkansas County named the first bicentennial community in the state. While serving in this position, she chaired the statewide celebration on July 4, 1976, at Arkansas Post National Memorial. She was instrumental in getting the American Revolution exhibit at the park and served as liaison to Arkansas Daughters of the American Revolution and the National Park Service for nine years. She served on the committee and worked with the national delegates to get the funding passed through Congress for the construction of the visitor's center at the park. Pollard chaired the celebration of the opening of the museum in Stuttgart in 1974 as a member of Amici Club, the founding organization of what was then the Arkansas County Agricultural Museum. Pollard was added to the original board of trustees for the museum in 1979. She served on the museum board for 16 years, serving twice as chairman. Pollard was recognized as "One of Arkansas' Remarkable Women." Genealogy was Pollard's hobby; she belonged to over 25 societies: a charter member of three Daughters of the American Revolution Chapters-- David Allen Chapter of Campbellsville Ky.; Grand Prairie Chapter, Stuttgart: and Arkansas Post Chapter, Stuttgart. She was an Honorary State Regent for the Arkansas State Society. She was an Honorary State President of Colonial Dames, Seventeenth-Century, serving as State President while a member of the John Elliot Chapter. Pollard had served as State President Huguenot Society of Arkansas, State Regent of Magna Charta Dames and Barons, State Governor Jamestown Society Little Rock Company, and State President Daughters of Indian Wars. She had held an executive office in most of the other societies she belonged to including Daughters of Colonial Wars, Daughters of 1812 (Simon Bradford Chapter), Daughters of American Colonists (Lt. Samuel Cherry Chapter), United Daughters of the Confederacy (David O. Dodd Chapter), and New England Women Diamond Colony Chapter. Not only has she served the various societies as a chapter member, and on the state level, Pollard has also served on the national levels of both NSDAR and NSCDXVIIC. As the caption by her photo in the SHS annual states, "It's the smile that gets them," describing Pollard. She was always smiling. She leaves this world a better place by sharing her happiness with her smile and her many friends and others. Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m., Tuesday at Turpin Funeral Home with graveside services, officiated by the Rev. David King, following at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at Lone Tree Cemetery chapel. A reception to celebrate her life will be held directly following the services at the First Presbyterian Church 120 W. Seventh, Stuttgart.
