John Douglas Mizell

On October 6, 2019, John Douglas Mizell, age 75, passed away at DeLand, Fla. John was born on October 31, 1943 at West Monroe, La., to Alvin Byrum Mizell and Thelma Forrest Fuller. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Richard Mizell, nephew, Mark Mizell, niece, Naomi (Dara) Mizell and granddaughter, Leah Ruth Watson. In 1966 he married Linda Bruce Arington of Hot Springs. They had two daughters, Shanna Quinn (husband John) and Erica Watson (husband Tim). He is survived by wife, daughters, sons-in-law, and three grandchildren; sisters, Rebekah (Mizell Perkins Bell) and Sue Zan Mizell and two nephews. "Mr. Dependable" loved his family dearly and enjoyed his role as "Baba." He earned both bachelor's and master's degrees in education. He retired early in Illinois as a school superintendent and then traveled the world. Memorial service will be held at Gurdon's Evergreen Church of God, 7190 Hwy. 67, on Nov. 2 at 2 p.m., meal following.
