Rev. Lawrence "Larry" Shannon Skinner, 66, of North Little Rock, Ark., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. A son of Henry and Lillian Edith (Green) Skinner, he was born August 14, 1953, in Memphis, Tenn. He received his theological studies at Barean School of the Bible of Springfield, MO. He married Ruby Jewell (Galentine) Skinner, on June 30, 1973 at Lamar, Ark. Bro. Larry served the past 13 years as Pastor of the Amazing Grace Assembly of God in North Little Rock. He also pastored Assembly of God congregations in Moreland, Lonoke, Little Rock, Jacksonville and the Strawberry community of Lamar, Ark. His vocational ministry also included being an on-air radio announcer for more than 20 years, programming Southern Gospel Music on KWXT in Russellville, KMTL in Sherwood, KGHT in Sherwood, and KCGS in Marshall. He emceed many Southern Gospel music concerts across the state, and co-hosted "Gospel Road Home" with Jim Schmidt that was syndicated in Arkansas and Florida. He loved to play the piano, bass guitar, preach the Word of God, and enjoyed collecting coins, camping, fishing and spending time with his family and faith community. Bro. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Sharron Laymon. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ruby Skinner; their daughter, Stacy McDaniel (Terry) of Russellville; two brothers, Henry Skinner (Delia) and Michael Skinner (Brian) of McKinney, Texas; three sisters, Mary "Cathy" Rysavy of New York City, N.Y., Cecilia King of Willis, Texas, and Pat Cooper (Terry) of Lincolnton, Ga; a grandson, Taylor McDaniel of Russellville, and a host of other nieces & nephews. Sister Ruby and family will receive friends at Amazing Grace Assembly of God, 14018 Todd Road, 72113, near the Maumelle community in North Little Rock, on Friday, September 13, 6-8 p.m. A service of worship to celebrate Bro. Larry's life & ministry will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 14, 2019, at the church with Rev. Michael Mills and Rev. Gary Findley officiating. The committal service and interment will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Russellville, Ark. by Humphrey Funeral Service on Monday, September 16, 2019, at 10 a.m. Memorials may be made to Amazing Grace Assembly of God.
