Steve Strahan

White Hall, AR, 1958 - 2019

Steve Strahan, 61, of White Hall, died Saturday, September 14, 2019 at home. Born Thomas Steven Strahan August 10, 1958, in Stuttgart, he was the son of George Thomas Strahan, Sr. and Patricia Ann Montgomery Strahan. Steve was reared and received his early education in Watson Chapel, graduating from Watson Chapel Academy in 1976. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Arkansas at Monticello in 1981.
He co-owned and operated Western Ho Western Wear, a family owned retail clothing store from 1979-1984. After working for Montrose Academy from 1985-1988 as a athletic director, coach and teacher, he moved to White Hall in 1988. He worked for the Arkansas Department of Corrections since 1988 and was currently serving as the Assistant administrator for Arkansas Correctional Industries over Sales. Steve was a member of First Baptist Church of White Hall. He loved hunting and fishing.
He was very involved in White Hall athletics. Steve coached multiple White Hall softball teams from 1992-2000. He served in many capacities within the White Hall Booster Club from 1998-2008, including Vice President, President and Treasurer. He served as President of the White Hall Booster Club again from 2016-2017. Steve served as President of Jefferson County American Legion Baseball since 2006.
In baseball, Steve managed the Simmons First American Legion baseball from 2005-2011, served as vice president off Junior Babe Ruth Board of Directors in 2004, managed the Wholesale Tire Little League team from 2001-2003 and the Wholesale Tire Babe Ruth team in 2004. At the state level, Steve coached boys 5th and 6th grade AAU basketball from 2001-2003 and 7th grade AAU basketball from 2003-2004.
He served as President of National Association of Institutional Agribusiness from 2011-2012. Along with his accomplishments as a coach and valued board member in local athletics, Steve was also well known as the voice of White Hall Bulldog Football. He has served in that capacity since the fall of 2001.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his loving wife, Dottie Neikirk Strahan, whom he married November 30, 1985, in White Hall; daughter, Sarah Ann Strahan; son, George Thomas Strahan, II; sister, Stephany Strahan Beene (John); sister and brothers-in-law, Francis Neikirk Casteel (Robert), Gracie Neikirk Welch (John Paul), Bill Neikirk (Sonya "Tootie") and David Neikirk (Sherri); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at First Baptist Church of White Hall with Brother Paul Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery by Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at First Baptist Church of White Hall.
