Janie Lou Peebles

Janie Lou (Whitehead) Peebles, 78, of Augusta, died Tuesday, September 24, 2019. Mrs. Peebles was born September 29, 1940 in Fitzhugh a daughter of the late James and Ruth (Griffin) Esker. She was a retired bookkeeper and a member of the Augusta First Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed reading, sewing and and gardening but her ultimate role in life was fulfilled when she became Nonna. She is survived by her daughters, Becky Pilcher and husband Ricky of Augusta and Sharon Oakes of Paducah, Kentucky; a grandson, Scott Pilcher and wife Katie of Jonesboro; granddaughters, Emily Pilcher of Dallas, Texas and Bethany Dunn and husband Nickolas of Conway; great-grandchild, Lincoln Pilcher of Jonesboro; sisters, Kathleen Elam, Debbie Ashby, Bonnie Kearney and Mary Towne. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elliott Peebles; son, Tommy Peebles; granddaughter, Sarah Grace Baker and two brothers, Tommy and Neal Whitehead. Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, September 27, 2019 beginning at 1 p.m. Memorial services will follow at 2 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Augusta. Interment will follow in the Augusta Memorial Park. Memorial contributions can be directed to the Woodruff County Library.
