John Joseph Hamilton Jr., 89 of North Little Rock, crossed over River Jordan to be with his SAVIOR in Heaven on Monday, April 27, 2020. He finally succumbed to a long-fought battle with cancer. He was resting peaceably when he crossed over. John was born November 26, 1930, to John and Maude Hamilton. He was the youngest of 9 children. John proudly served his country in the military. Starting in the Navy, thereafter the Air Force and completing his military career in the Arkansas Air National Guard. He rose to the position of Chief of Maintenance, in the Jet Propulsion Shop, of the 189th Squadron. He retired with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. John was married for 68 years to Frances Hall Hamilton, the love of his life. They met in the 9th grade at North Little Rock Junior High. John spent most of his life faithfully serving our LORD and SAVIOR. He was a charter member of Military Road Baptist Church, from the founding and construction of the buildings to serving as a Deacon, Song Director, Sunday School Teacher, RA leader and Vacation Bible School teacher. He also found the time to become a Gideon. Over the decades of his service there he went on many international missionary trips and BIBLE placements. Along with these commitments he made time to become a CRA minister, for the Arkansas Dept of Corrections, making weekly visits to the various jails in the state. For a time he was the Chaplin of the Arkansas State Police Maintenance unit, in Little Rock, holding services on every Tuesday night, until the State imposed COVID19 restrictions suspended them. John, along with his wife, served as counselors/teachers for many summers at Siloam Spring church camp. He loved to spread the good news of JESUS CHRIST's Love for everyone, young and old, literally around the world. He truly invested his time here heavily in GOD's service. John loved the outdoors, especially fishing, but he enjoyed hosting "Fish Fry", even more. Yet another passion of his life was fabricating trailers, in his home work shop. He was a self-taught welder and machinist, never really mastering either but delivered a life time guarantee with all his products. There was not anything he would not build for anyone who could describe their ideas to him. John was a loving father and wonderful Grandfather, to his only grandchild, Evan another great love of his life. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Frances Anne Hamilton, his oldest son John J. Hamilton III and his wife Sondra of Scott, grandson, Dr. Evan Joseph Hamilton and his wife Liz of North Little Rock, along with a host of nieces and nephews. In Lieu of Flowers it is John's request that memorials be made to the Gideons International at https://www.gideons.org or Military Road Baptist Church, P.O. Box 145, Jacksonville 72078. Due to the current situation with COVID, a private family service will be held at a later date.
