Charles E. Holmes

CHARLES E. HOLMES passed away on July 31, 2020 in Little Rock. He was born February 1, 1926, in Perry, Arkansas to Erwin and Nora Holmes. Charles graduated from high school in May, 1944, and joined the Navy the next day serving in both WWII and the Korean War. Charles married Louise Brents on June 16, 1952. They made White Hall, Ark., their home and raised a family there. Charles worked at the Pine Bluff Arsenal for 33 years retiring from his job as an Electronics Technician in 1985. When he wasn't busy serving on committees or helping out at his church, he volunteered for the VA Hospital where he worked for 23 years driving the DAV Van from White Hall to Little Rock each week or serving as Patient Escort in the hospital. He was a member of the Lions Club and volunteered with the White Hall Booster Club. He was a member of the White Hall United Methodist Church for 52 years before moving to Little Rock and joining Trinity UMC. Charles truly loved life to the fullest and found great pleasure in helping and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Louise Brents Holmes and son Alan Holmes, of Little Rock; son-in-law, Jerry Brooks and granddaughter, Erin Brooks of Hot Springs; Heather (Jason) Novascone and great-granddaughter, Brielle, from Wichita, Kansas. He is predeceased by his parents; brother, Spencer Holmes; sister, Mary Ellen Maupin; infant son, Charles Ricky Holmes and daughter, Judy Holmes Brooks. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 8, 2020, 10 a.m. in the Robinson and Fuller White Hall Chapel. Visitation will follow the service. Interment will be at White Hall United Methodist Church Cemetery. Due to the COVID pandemic, masks are required to attend services.
