James Walter Vernor

James Walter Vernor, of DeWitt, entered eternal bliss Thursday, August 13th, 2020. James was born March 7th, 1937, in Van, to Roscoe and Hazel Dancy Vernor. James was first and foremost a Christian. He was a member of Belleville Missionary Baptist Church, where he and the love of his life, Mary attended for many years. James and Mary enjoyed their lives together for 59 years, before Mary joined her Heavenly Father in 2018. James joins his love in eternity, and the family celebrates their everlasting happiness together. He served in the National Guard, and worked for over 30 years as the Sunbeam bread man for South Arkansas County. He was a member of DeWitt City Council, a frequent customer of DeWitt's coffee shops, a dear friend to anyone in need, and the most handsome, loving Papaw to ever grace the world. James was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Shirley Brown and Donna McBroom; and wife, Mary Davis Vernor. He is survived by his daughter, Kay Fisher of DeWitt, and beloved former son-in-law, Palmer Fisher; two grandchildren, Glen Fisher and wife Crystal of DeWitt, and Katie Mahfouz and husband Eric of Stuttgart; two sisters, Lottie Forrest and husband Johnny of Sherwood, and Peggy Batton of Arcadia, La. James' greatest joys were his great-grandchildren, Leah and Micah Fisher, and Josiah, Walter, and Titus Mahfouz. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., on Sunday, August 16, at Unity Missionary Baptist Church in DeWitt. The family requests all those in attendance wear masks.
