Howard Winston Froud, 84, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, August 19, 2020. He was born December 19, 1935, in Steprock, Ark., to Carl and Otherine (Yingling) Froud. He married Lula Bell Baker on August 6, 1954. To this union were born four children, Deborah, Winston, James, and Louis. Howard devoted his life to faith in God, family and farming on land that had been in his family since 1846. Through the years Howard, Lula Bell and the kids farmed and ranched many years. The harvests included cotton, strawberries, soybeans, squash, watermelon, chickens and most recently Beefmaster cattle. To our knowledge (and his), Froud Ranch was the oldest and longest running breeder of purebred Beefmaster cattle in Arkansas. He enjoyed going out on the side by side to check the cows or even just sitting in his chair and looking at them through the window. Monday-Saturday you'd find him on the ranch working cows with the boys or doing hay. But on Sunday, you'd find him at church in his best western style suit and his good ole cowboy hat. In the words of his grandson, Cameron Froud, Howard, "loved God and wanted to tell everyone he could about him." He served as songleader, bible class teacher and bookkeeper at Steprock Church of Christ, an elder at Bethel Grove Church of Christ and faithful member at Cloverdale Church of Christ. He also had gone on many mission trips to Guatemala. His grandson Chase Froud, articulates well the legacy Howard leaves when he said, "I'm thankful for the faith of my grandparents and their example of faith to all of us." He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Otherine, his stepmother, Marie Froud; sister, Carletta, and his son, James Clyde Froud. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lula Bell Froud; daughter, Deborah (Larry) Harrison of Judsonia; sons, Winston (Margaret) Froud of Judsonia and Louis (Shannon) Froud of Steprock; his grandchildren, Misty Williams, Chad Froud, Emily Drew, Chase Froud, Malarie Thomas, Elizabeth Baines, Cameron Froud, Meredith Brewer, Christine Dillard, Kyle Froud and Mariah Blount; 19 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. We would like to thank his caregivers for the awesome job they have done, he really thought a lot of them; Annie Hawkins, Misty Nichols, Linda Brewer and Sheila Piety. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Guatemala Mission Fund: C/O Cloverdale Church of Christ, 3000 East Park, Searcy, Ark., 72143, Paragould Children's Home, 5515 Walcott Rd, Paragould, Ark., 72450, or Searcy Children's Home, 208 East Moore Ave., Searcy, Ark., 72143. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. Services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, August 22, 2020, at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Bald Knob. Interment will follow in the Philadelphia Cemetery in Steprock. Arrangements entrusted to Powell Funeral Home Bald Knob-Judsonia. www.powellfuneralhome.net
