Rebecca Carter Robinson

Rebecca Carter Robinson, Ph.D., 70, of Pine Bluff and Wabbaseka, died peacefully in her sleep Monday, August 24th, in Sheridan. To respect social distancing during the 2020 pandemic, the immediate family will hold a closed ceremony Thursday, August 27th at Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Home. The family looks forward to safely celebrating her life with all her friends and family at a future date. Rebecca (or Becky, to her friends) was born on March 17th, 1950,, in Pine Bluff. She was the second child to Brown Henry Carter and Sarah Lee Carter, a farmer and housewife. She is survived by her brother Henry Everett ("Butch") Carter of Horseshoe Lake. Becky was preceded in death by her husband, Geary Don Robinson of Wabbaseka. Becky and Geary Don had two adult children together: Brandon Robinson (Jessica) of St. Louis, Mo., and Brent Robinson of Austin, Texas. Throughout her life, Becky loved her family and her community. She was a passionate believer in the power of education and dedicated her focus to educating others. For over 20 years, she shaped the minds and lives of children in the Pine Bluff School District with the single intent of distilling good in each student she met. Becky first attended the University of Arkansas and the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Then she received her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. One of her proudest accomplishments was receiving a Doctorate of Education from the University of Arkansas. These academic advancements allowed her to aid Pine Bluff's at-risk children in a much greater capacity. Growing from teacher to guidance counselor and ultimately champion for non-native English speaking children in the district. Becky's work shaped the lives of hundreds of area citizens and leaders, including five-time MLB All-Star Torii Hunter, with whom Becky maintained a friendly mentorship with, until her retirement. Becky was a highly engaged community activist, helping to restart and ultimately become the president of the Jefferson County chapter of the Federation of Arkansas Democratic Women in 2005. She was actively involved in the Federation and loved meeting other women from across the state and nation. Becky served in many education, health, and community-based organizations during her 70 years on earth. Ever focused on improving the lives of the community she loved so much, she was highly engaged in her faith and churches, Wabbaseka United Methodist Church and Atheimer United Methodist Church, by playing the piano for many years each Sunday and serving as a member of the United Methodist Women, both examples of her commitment to community. When the angels sing recount the history of the Pine Bluff community, they will sing the name of Becky Robinson and the impact she had on her community. Becky is survived by her brother, Henry; sons, Brandon and Brent; and grandchild, Jack. In lieu of flowers, the family is encouraging donations to Flat Bayou Cemetery Fund, her final resting place.
