Jerry Dale Davis

Jerry Dale ‘Butch' Davis, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, at St. Vincent's Infirmary, having been surrounded by family and friends. Butch was born in Augusta, Ark., on September 15, 1946, to Cole Haley Davis Sr. and Mollie Jewell Joyner Davis. He was of the Baptist faith. Butch was a Vietnam veteran serving as a Sargent in the U.S. Army in the 4th Battalion 39th Brigade 9th Infantry Division, who served his tour of duty in 1966/1967. He was one of the ‘Old Reliables' who held his service to his country as an honor. He was an active longtime member with the American Legion Post 30 where he was Sargent of Arms. He was one of the original members of the founders of the American Legion Veterans Memorial Park (B-17 Memorial Park) in Sheridan, Ark. Butch was an active park committee member who spent countless hours volunteering on the project and raised funds for its construction. The park and the other members were very special to him and he was proud of the outcome. Butch and his beloved wife Barbara were married for 42 years and they enjoyed traveling all over the country to his 9th Infantry Division reunions. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers, Donald Hunter and Larry Davis, and his sister Irene Scott. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara June Mitcherson Davis of Sheridan, his brother, Cole (Diane) Davis, Jr. of Sheridan, his sister, Linda (Ricky) Whittaker of Sheridan, sisters-in-law, Paula Davis of Sheridan, Denise (Kyle) Williams of Conway and brother-in-law, Butch (Nancy) Mitcherson of Pine Bluff. Butch was loved by a host of nephews and nieces and his Army buddies. A celebration of life service was held at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Sheridan, Ark., on Monday, November 30, at 11 a.m., with visitation prior at 10 a.m. Interment followed the service at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Michael Walton officiated. Pallbearers were, Shorty Davis, Craig Lockhart, Mike McCarson, Don Culpepper, Larry Williford, Buddy Smith.
